Pipe Repair & Repiping in DFW

Many homes in Garland and Mesquite were built in the 1960s through 1990s. The plumbing installed during that era — primarily copper supply lines and cast iron drain lines — is now reaching the end of its useful life. Copper corrodes from the inside out in DFW's hard water. Cast iron drain lines deteriorate and collapse. When repairs become frequent and the overall pipe condition is poor, repiping is the right answer.

The Service Genie evaluates your pipe condition honestly. If a targeted repair will solve the problem for years, we'll say so. If your system is at the point where repiping is the better investment, we'll explain why — and give you a clear quote.

Signs Your Home May Need Repiping

  • Recurring leaks in the same area — or in multiple areas
  • Discolored water — rust-colored or brown hot water indicates corrosion inside the pipes
  • Low water pressure throughout the home — buildup inside older pipes restricts flow
  • Visible corrosion on exposed pipe sections
  • Your home has original galvanized steel pipes — these have a lifespan of 40–70 years, and many are well past it
  • Frequent slab leaks — often a sign that the entire supply system is deteriorating
  • Your home is more than 40 years old and has never had a plumbing update

Pipe Materials We Work With

PEX (Cross-Linked Polyethylene)

The modern standard for residential repiping. PEX is flexible, resistant to scale and chlorine, and handles the expansion and contraction of DFW's temperature swings better than copper. It's also significantly less expensive to install than copper. For most whole-home repiping projects, PEX is our recommended material.

Copper

Still an excellent pipe material with a long track record. Copper is preferred in some situations — particularly for hot water lines and where local codes specify it. We install and repair copper pipe throughout the DFW area.

CPVC

A rigid plastic pipe used for supply lines. Common in homes built in the 1980s and 1990s. CPVC can become brittle over time and is more vulnerable to failure in hard freeze events like the ones DFW experienced in 2021.

Cast Iron (Drain Lines)

Original drain pipe material in most pre-1980 DFW homes. Cast iron corrodes from the inside over time, eventually cracking, collapsing, or developing root infiltration. We camera-inspect cast iron drain systems and advise on repair vs. replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long does whole-home repiping take?

Most whole-home repiping projects take two to three days. The duration depends on the size of the home, the pipe material being replaced, and access conditions. Water service is interrupted during active pipe replacement but restored each evening.

  • Do I need to leave my home during repiping?

You can remain in the home. You will be without water during active work periods, but we restore service at the end of each day.

  • Is repiping covered by homeowner's insurance?

Typically, no — repiping is considered a maintenance expense rather than sudden damage. However, if repiping is necessitated by a covered event (like pipe damage from a freeze), there may be partial coverage. Check with your insurance provider.

  • Will repiping require drywall repair?

Access holes are necessary in most repiping projects. We make them as small as possible. Drywall patching is typically handled by a separate drywall contract — or our handyman team can handle it if you'd like to keep it in one place.

"Great experience from this young plumber and his team. Very professional and patient, went above and beyond. He replaced my hot water heater in a timely manner and even went to several stores to satisfy my wishful thinking of getting a better price for the heater, Which I didn’t but he put forth the effort. A professional and knowledgeable young man, my new plumber."
